House fires happen often, can get out of control quickly and are devastating. Take all fire safety and protection precautions to prevent a fire from destroying your home. Start with your yard. In hot dry climates, keep your yard free of dead grass or dead plants. Dead yard waste is very flammable and will make a fire spread rapidly, which can also result in spreading the fire throughout your neighborhood. Avoid having deadbolts that lock with an inside key, in the event of a fire you need to be able to evacuate as quick as possible and having to get your key and unlock your door can take up too much time. Fill your home with smoke detectors, have some on every floor of your home and in or at least near every room. It is safest to have both ionization and photoelectric smoke detectors, or find a smoke detector that have both sensors on it. For even more protection in your home put carbon monoxide detectors as well. Carbon monoxide can be deadly and not easily detected without a a CO detector. Pay attention when putting your cigarette or cigar out. People who do not pay attention can accidentally throw a still lit one into the trash and catch your can on fire. While emptying out your ash tray be sure all butts are completely cooled off, run cold water over them first just to be sure. If your building your house from the ground up use fire proof materials, especially use fire proof shingles on your roof. Have your address easily visible so firefighters wont have trouble finding your home.
Always Prepare For The Worst Case Scenario
April 15th, 2012 by admin No comments »I live in an apartment, and I am always concerned about fire safety and protection. My windows are on the second floor, but if I had to I would easily be able to jump out of them, the ground is on a hill so I wouldn’t break a leg or something. I also have fire alarms throughout my apartment as well as a carbon dioxide detector too. I figure since I do like to use my fireplace in the winter, it is an always good idea to have a carbon dioxide detector since it can be a silent killer. Each year you hear about a family dying from carbon poisoning.
The Daily Grind with a splash of Olive Oil
March 23rd, 2012 by admin No comments »When the sun hit my face this morning I was assured that my day was going to be filled with warmth and promise. Fast forward a few hours with a lap full of spilled coffee and a swollen ankle for walking tripping over a broomstick, life could be a little better. In fact, it was the point where my hot cup of coffee hit my lap and stained my khakis where I realized I should have stayed in bed. But as the old saying goes, it has to get better from here. I have a good lunch planned, which makes me happy. I prepared a nice little pasta dish with olive oil, some basil and Parmesan. With a lunch like that, I suppose things can only get better from here. So here’s to a new start to the new day with the sun still shining bright!
Fire Safety In The Workplace
March 20th, 2012 by admin No comments »I work for a manufacturing company in North Devon. In the last few weeks I have been trained to become a fire warden. The training was fun and informative but the responsibilities serious. I now wear a fire warden badge and if there is a real fire then I must also put on my fire warden armbands. These clearly identify me as a fire warden. Upon hearing an alarm I must sweep the floors to make sure no one remains inside the building and I must also close all doors and windows. Once this has been completed then it is my responsibility to take the register at the evacuation point.
Anything
March 19th, 2012 by admin No comments »I’ve thought a lot about you the past few weeks. It was hard to say “good-bye” to you, especially after all that we’ve been through. You mean more to me than a want to acknowledge. There are a lot of good things that I remember about you. You made me laugh all the time. You made me feel better about myself when I was down. You weren’t a liar, and I respect you for telling the truth. Even though the truth was absolutely painful. It hurt. But I think that it would’ve hurt more than if you’d lied to me. So, thank-you.
Slanty Shanty
March 15th, 2012 by admin No comments »The house that I live in now is called the Slanty Shanty. I am renting a house that is sixty years old and it would’ve been better to just set a match and let it burn. The kitchen floor is slanting downhill. The linoleum was in fashion about 25 years ago. There’s a hole in the floor in front of the dishwasher that I’m pretty sure will become large enough for my dog to fall in. The living room wall is torn up because there was mildew. The carpet is “indoor/outdoor” and was put together like a bad puzzle. My vacuum cleaner almost got broken because of the loose carpet fibers.

You should be prepared for the event of a fire
March 12th, 2012 by admin No comments »If a fire ever strikes in your home or at the office it is vitally important that you know where the fire escape is and how to reach safety from a variety of places via multiple routes. You don’t know which exits will be available so it is very important that you know them all. Make sure you know where the fire escape ladder is and, if this is at work, make sure that the ladder is in good working order and not obstructed. Someone should be in charge of this but it is always better to be safe rather than sorry, you will be thankful for it if a fire ever does happen.
Clothes I swiped from my sister
March 12th, 2012 by admin No comments »My sister and I are about the same size. She has a really good paying job and is able to afford really cute clothes. I went “shopping” in her closet before the summer started. I’m working in an office and needed skirts. She’s a nursing student and is wearing scrubs all the time. I am wearing one of her skirts today – one with pink and blue stripes and a ribbon belt. It matches a pink blouse that I got at a thrift store perfectly. I brought along a red sweatshirt to put on when I get to work because it’s cold in air conditioning.
What I want
March 9th, 2012 by admin No comments »If there was something that I wanted more than anything, it would be to marry Randy. Randy is the really awesome youth pastor from my church. He’s very tall and has a great smile. I feel like he and I would be a good match but I am too nervous to tell him outright. I was sitting next to him in church yesterday and I hardly heard the sermon because I was so distracted by him. I am hoping to get to know him better during the next few months. Good thing I have an excuse to see him tonight at a youth planning meeting.
Something special for me
March 6th, 2012 by admin No comments »My Dad and I have a lot in common. A hobby that we share is collecting fountain pens. When I was in college my Dad gave me a fountain pen that belonged to my grandfather. He served in Europe during World War 2. The pen that belonged to my Grandpa is a Pelican vacuum fill fountain pen that is dark green that looks almost black. The nib is gold and the it is very easy to write with. I am glad that I have this special pen. For the past ten years I’ve been collecting pens and I’ve gotten one for every special occasion for the past ten years.
